The event starts at 7pm ET.

This evening, Samsung is launching their latest phone in the Galaxy S series. The new model is logically called S4, and is expected to have full HD resolution (1920×1080) on a 5-inch (or 4.99-inch) screen, as well as a 13MP camera. It is still unclear what processor will power the new phone, but some rumors say a quad-core for the North American market and an eight-core for the international models.

The event takes place in New York tonight at 7pm Eastern time, and there will of course be a live stream. It can be viewed here.

Unless it somehow can get data substantially faster than earlier models, I don’t really see what the point is. When it takes Sprint three minutes to figure out where I am and send me directions to my destination, I don’t particularly care whether the “please wait” message is in full HD resolution.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S3 with LTE on the AT&T LTE network, and I get very fast connections here in north Texas. I posted a screenshot of SpeedTest a while back: http://blog.texasswede.com/review-samsung-galaxy-s3/
11 Mbit/s down and 2Mbit/s up is pretty good. I often stay on 4G over at my friends, as my connection on thephone is faster than on their wifi networks…
I don’t think the S4 will be extremely much faster when it comes to Internet connection, but depending on what one is doing on the phone (games, more advanced/graphics intensive apps, etc), the faster processors will make a difference. I have to say that the screen on the S3 is very nice, and my son can’t wait for me to get the S4 so he can take over my S3 and dump his iPhone 4… 🙂

Corrections, that screenshot was taken while I was on my wifi at home. Using 4G (LTE) I got actually even faster speeds, 22Mbit/s down and around 5Mbit/s up…
